Socality/Moment instameet, and a whole lot of gushing!

April 2, 2017

Today marks the day of my very first instameet. Yay!! Thanks to the folks over at Moment and Socality, I was able to meet many wonderful photographers and creators from Washington and nearby areas. The meet was held at Rattlesnake Lake, and despite the classic crummy PNW weather, there were about 150 people who joined. I have been following several very talented individuals for a while now, such as Tanner Wendell, Joelle Friend, Rob Stork, Scott Bakken, and Kyle Kotajarvi, but meeting and networking with these guys was a real treat.

Probably the number one question I was asked today was: "Would you ever commit to photography full time?" I always hesitated with my response. Photography is slowly becoming an all encompassing passion of mine, but would I give up my current stable job to join the ranks of the uncertain freelance photography world? In short, no, I wouldn't. I absolutely love being a dental hygienist. As crazy as it sounds, I actually enjoy taking care of people's teeth! Plus I get to meet he most interesting people which is a great in itself. I worked incredibly hard to get to where I am today, so the thought of giving that up just doesn't make sense.

Photography is my artistic passion, and I will devote as much time as I can to it. However, since I have a set career I can lean on, there is very little pressure on me to make money off of my photography....which I have to admit, I love. Being able to do something you love without the financial pressures darkening your spirit is a true blessing. It allows for true creative freedom, and I'm blessed to be able to have that right now.

Life has a way of making changes to our so called "norm" as time passes, but for now I'm truly content with the way things are going. I can see the growth in my work, and being able to grow organically as an artist has been truly humbling. Being able to share what I love with you all is a great privilege, and I'm happy to hear you guys are enjoying my work as well.

.

I guess I just wanted to say thank you so much for your support once again. You are all amazing and I'm excited to show you all what's next!

.

Much love,

xo Di
