Just wrapped up and delivered the final edits for a photo shoot with local Seattle fashion blogger Wendy Wei (@bytheweifashion). I had the best time shooting with her! Traditionally, I tend to be more of an adventure/landscape/travel photographer, but getting the chance to work with some local individuals has been fun for a change. I'm finally able to understand why many photographer shoot people....there is a different engagement with the subject. When shooting landscapes, your engagement is more internal, we appreciate the beauty before us and are moved in such a way that often leads to inner growth or inner appreciation for that that surrounds us. It's different when you are photographing people. The engagement is more external. Being able to connect and communicate with your subject, and share in the photographic experience is quite rewarding. Once all is said and done and images are delivered, there's almost a sense of satisfaction in knowing that you are delivering a product that has your own artistic signature. It's something that you've created that full fill's another individual's need or desire, something that you hope they are as happy about receiving as you are about creating and delivering it.
It's a different engagement, more work, definitely, but I can see myself doing more portraits and lifestyle shoots in the future. I may have mentioned this before, but my goal is to make more people happy this year, and if I can do that by helping them create something they'll love, then I'm all for it!
